Trauma Therapy in Asheville, North Carolina
My earliest work experiences were with children and families from highly traumatic backgrounds. After graduating from the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work, I worked for The Children’s Center of Detroit to help young children recover from the effects of neglect, abuse and other traumas. While definitely daunting at times, the work was invaluable in helping me understand the effects of trauma throughout the life cycle.
Today I use this knowledge to help my clients understand the physical and cognitive effects that trauma leaves on the system. Many of my clients are struggling with residual stress, fear or numbness leftover from a previous trauma. They may be functioning just fine in their daily life, yet they are still struggling with additional stress or fears related to their past trauma. As life piles on, additional stressors often push people beyond their coping abilities which is where a lot of breakthrough anxiety occurs.

Using Trauma-Focused CBT and Cognitive-Processing Therapy I am able to help client’s re-interpret their body’s trauma symptoms, and re-frame their trauma narrative in order to reduce flashbacks, nightmares, and the overwhelming memories related to their experiences.
